so i must say... i wore my heelys for the first time at work today... all my buddies thought it was really cool and funny, and yea good feedback (not that i care)...
but then there came the pharmacy girls. 1 of them i'm friends with and we joke around a lot, she always wants to shave my mohawk, etc... the other one however, i never talk to, she's reallllly cute, and yea. well they saw me rolling around today and stopped me. the one who i knew was more on the 'really? you really have those things, i hate those things' but it was ok. buuuuut i guess they both agreed that i would never get a girl with them. and pretty much made fun of me. i just laughed and said whatever, joked around with them.

i'm not one to really care, and told her i'd prove her wrong, lol... but come on now, what's wrong with heelys?

There's nothing "wrong" with them any more than there's something "wrong" with skateboards, inlines, rollerskates, ripsticks, freelines, or whatevers.
The "problem" is that most people see them only on inconsiderate little kids who zip around corners in stores, cutting them off and crashing into things. That, coupled with the subconscious jealousy of believing they can't also get some, develops into hate for them. Rather than hating the kids for being inconsiderate, or themselves for being afraid to get some, they blame the shoes. Kind of like how parents blame the shoes when they send their kids out into the street to "play with your new shoes" without any training or protective gear, and the kid gets a broken limb or a concussion.
No, you're not going to attract women by wearing Heelys and caring about what they think. Make it clear that you don't CARE what they think, and suddenly they won't care bout your Heelys...But might find they care about you for some reason. (Aloofness and confidence are attractive to a lot of women Wink.

Anyway, the more people like you and us there are out there, the less offensive Heelys will become to people. Just kick it and enjoy yourself, respect the right of way of the other people in the store (which I'm sure you do), and you're golden. Most people, even when they're a hater, upon seeing someone cool using them responsibly or in a cool way, will change their opinion of the shoes. Like I said, it's not the shoes, it's the people most often seen wearing them.

Depends who you ask I suppose. Since most (all?) of the members here love Heelys you're likely to get a biased answer to the question. Smile

All I can say is, until I got involved in this, I didn't realised how shallow some people can be. I mean there's so many people on youtube who'll put you down for something they know next to nothing about, but if you like something, then do what you want. Judging by your cool hair, you don't need this advice tho. Smile

The only thing I do in an attempt to not give heelys a worse image is I don't try tricks I'm not very good at yet in public: I always practise in private till I'm good at something: my reasoning being there's no need to give the haters ammunition to say: "see, they suck because you can't do it!"

Of course, I'm lucky to have a quiet place to practise whilst my current job lasts: when it's over I guess I'll have to start using public places to practise.

I can feel your pain. But you'll come to realize that you'll find more people who find it being acceptable then unacceptable.

People look and laugh at me wearing the shoes, but at the same time, I don't really give a damn what they think. I go to skateparks and there will be people who will giggle, but most of them are under the age of 15 and think that they know everything. The older people at the parks respect and even provide props for skating on these things. I mean seriously, who doesn't want to zip around the mall causing old ladies to faint and babies to cry?

The majority of the haters you will encounter is via the internet. People feel the need to express their lack of creativity by commenting against Heelys. But as AMN stated, its all about the vision people have.

I can't explain the shoe to anyone without say "You know, the little kid shoes? With the wheel? HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW!?!?" But as people start to know me and realize thats the only shoe I wear, they come accepting of them.

Also, don't think that a shoe will stop you from getting a lady. If someone doesn't want to kick it with you because of your shoe preference, then do you really want to kick it with them? It will start with the shoes, then the hair, and then your clothing style. Pretty soon you'll be wearing Holister shirts, ripped acid washed jeans, earth made Jesus Cruisers, and listening to bands like "Fish" (I didn't mean to offend anybody who does those things if you do them... or am I... o.O)

You gotta be yourself, and don't give a crap what other people think. This doesn't mean raise Hell and burn down political buildings, but carry a sense of personality. More chicks dig a dude with confidence, just like AMN said, and judging by a 23 year old soccer player with a mohawk and rides Strands... Damn sucka... lol

lol yea...

my mohawk already proves it i guess, i don't care what they think, some girls dig it, and some don't. i actually told the girls that i'd prove them wrong, and yea, i will tell them when a girl tells me that the heelys are hot! lol.

my philosophy has always been, if a girl doesn't like me, then i don't like her, simple. my ex (that i work with unfortunately) already told me it was hot. i guess i'll just have to practice a little so i can do a few 360s, then maybe they'll shut up. it's all good though, i'm havin fun!

Um ..

It doesn't matter who likes you. I only matters if you like yourself.

And .. your mom. It matters if your mom likes you.

Unless you're an orphan. In which case, that matters a bit less.

The second thing. Not the first thing. The first this is the most important.

Kinda tired.

Haha, Merlyn you're funny when you're tired. XD

Come to think of it, whilst we're on the subject of women liking Heelys, don't know if it means anything but I've had a lot more interest from women than I usually get since I started wearing them LOL, Seriously. I guess they're sort of an attention grabber and ice-breaker. Very Happy Usually I must be so good at the "being cool and aloof" that I manage to go completely unnoticed. Laughing

At the skate park I had to politely avoid some girl for a while because she seemed to be interested. Nothing against her, she seemed nice, but age difference etc, you understand. Smile

And in the shops, it's always women who stop me to ask about the shoes. . I think most men are busy being "too cool to notice" and in the street, a couple of women once pulled me over (they were in car, I was heeling in the cycle lane) to ask exactly how and where to get some. Very Happy

So if my experience is anything to go by, women love Heelys. Very Happy

Not only that, but Dane Cook wore Heelys in that one movie... um... I can't remember.... Oh, 'Employee of the Month'

and you saw who he ended up with in the end...

LOL, I've never (yet) seen a movie with Heelys in it, but I loved the few Dane Cook vids I have seen. Smile

Is that movie worth watching in general, or best avoided? Smile
