Cities Cracking Down on Saggy Pants, Matthew Verrinder, Sept. 16
U.S. News
http://www.rr.com
()Ever seen those teenagers wearing their pants so low? Ever wonder why? Well, some cities have had enough of it. Apparently, its one of the newest trends or crazes. In my opinion, I would never wear pants like that. I like to do run a little, and if I wore pants like that, my pants would fall down!
()If you were to walk in pants hanging low in a small town in Louisiana, you could end up in jail for half of a year and $500 fine. These consequences are starting to come to Atlanta and Trenton. Wearing pants like that may also change the way people think about you.
()Trenton Councilwoman Annette Lartigue is attempting to create a law to stop the saggy pants. Its obvious, no one wants to see your undergarments or your bottom.
()The crazy trend originated in prisons. They were never given belts to hold up their uniforms to prevent being hanged or beating another inmate. The trend just wouldn’t go away! It made its way all the way to the ‘80s. Rap videos with gangsters started using the trend. Next, skateboarders started using the trend! The suburbs and high school highways were full of the fad. I just don’t understand how this became so popular!
()To kids it’s a sign of rebellion and uniqueness, even when everyone was doing it. To kids, they think it looks cool when it does look negative. Kids don’t see it as negative.
()Atlanta councilman C.T. Martin wants to stop the trend before it hits elementary schools. Teachers agree that the saggy pants are distractions. In Atlanta wearing pants like that won’t get you in jail but minor fines and a little community work.
()In Delcambre, LA the rules are much more strict! A $500 fine or 6 months in jail!
()I personally am just amazed at how popular this became! I don’t understand how popular, but everyone has the right to wear what they want, at least if your state has a law against it. |

You have GOT to be kidding me! This makes me furious.
I wear my pants at the waist so it's not going to affect me, but seriously wtf. How the HECK do you justify prison time or $100+ fines for wearing saggy pants!? I can understand something being done about bare butt showing, that's...public indecency or something like that. Just low pants though...come on.
You know who wears pants that sag? The same people who wear tall tees that go down to their knees(blocking the saggy pants). You know why people make such detailed and artistic boxers? Because you're supposed to see them...
And why the H311 is this even an issue worth discussion in a court or govt!? It's BEGGING for racial controversy. |
