When I began my heeling experience on September 5, 2006 I thought, hmm these shoes look cool to get around. But as I continued on my experience...everything changed!

When I first began to heel I was known as regular old 13 year old Laina. My first day felt like hell! It was raining and how was I supposed to know it was VERY slippery when heeling in the rain...especially when still learning! I fell tons of times and scraped my knee. Well after that I thought this REALLY aint for me. So later that day I went to a friends house and me,her,nd her brother and sister were trying to use them. It was hilarious! So later that night I said mom watch how good I am. Well I couldn’t even stand up straight on them. So I was trying to figure it out when BANG!! I fall on my back and my mom like freaks! I got up said I’m ok and went in. Back was hurting and missed the next day of school. I tried the rest of the week but with no success. That was my birthday gift for my birthday on September 9th (4 days after I got them) from my mom. Since I couldn’t use them I thought man what a crappy gift!

A week later I let 2 of my friends try them...they put them on and BANG they got it instantly. HOW HOW HOW?!? I thought. So then I went to the railing technique. The next day my friend Anthony (known as A-twitch) who was 8(now 9) got heelys and he was trying to get it. 3 days later I’m still on the railing while he is zooming by me. So he taught me how to balance myself and I got it the next day. So while me, Anthony, and Tino (4-runner) are heeling, Anthony’s lil bro Dominic (know at heely monster) is on skates trying to keep up with us. And he REALLY wanted heelys. The next day after school we were all trying to teach Dominic how to heely because his mom felt bad and bought him a pair. The next week and a half we were trying to gain speed and go around some cones, but Dominic was still trying to learn. Half week later, Dom learned and we were having contest on who could go the farthest and who could do the sharpest turns. Then Anthony goes, watch this I think we jump on these things! So we all did it. Then we learned to stall and do 360’s and we even learned how to deal with falling. Eventually I was talking bout videos of team I seen on the google and youtube when Anthony said, Hey lets start a heely team! We can learn tricks and be famous! I said ok and that’s how Team Heelz was started.

So now the team is started and we are trying to learn new tricks. And then me ant, and Tino were talking when Dom was practicing and we were saying if we could have Dom on the team because well he was only 5 at the time and cried a lot so we weren’t sure. So we gave him a test. To do any tricks we say, that’s when I learned the wall plant. So we were naming tricks off the top of our head and he had to score 100 points. He did score the 100 but we weren’t sure still. We told him he could have his own team with these other 2 kids up the street but he didn’t wanna. So he cried and we agreed to let him on the team…BUT only iv he did ok at the skatepark because we were going that Saturday for the first time. But later that night we went to Anthony’s house and thought about the rules, our sign, and then I said, we should have nicknames. So Anthony right away said I’m A-twitch because I’m Anthony and a have toretts and the name stuck. Then Tino said what can I have I like quads and I run so he was named 4-runner (quads=4 wheels) Then I said what can we name this little monster and he said heely monster and it stuck. But me…me…me…I wanted something shorts and easy. I was gonna be high-heelz but I didn’t like it so I took off the high and just kept heelz.

Ahh the skatepark! This was an ultimate experience for us all. I woke up at 8:30, earlier then I usually do on a Saturday. I got dressed right away and ran to twitch’s house (only like 15 houses away!) When I got there he was outside already getting pumped. Now it was like 9:00 and was hoping to leave like 10:00 but wait 4R is missing…he still sleeping. So I bang on his door and he comes out just as we were shutting the doors of the car. He’s lucky because we were leaving that second. So we got there and looked around. We didn’t know what to do first. So we tried halfpipe. NOPE!!! We couldn’t do it. So we went to the slopes. We did pretty good for the first time. Then we went for pizza and heeled every chance we got. We went home a heeled until it got dark. That was the best time ever!

The next day was very pathetic and when you read this you will think wow how did you think that but its true. Well I saw one of Merlyn’s videos and saw him grind so I though WTF?!? And watched it like 5 more times. So then when I see twitch I say lets learn to grind…well we had atomics we couldn’t grind. We tried all day with no success (obviously) So later that night I found heelychat (on the name phillychick1) I asked the question how do you grind someone said you need a grindplate. So I thought about and then asked do grindplates fit any heely shoe. Then I found out grindplates aint removable so I never learned to grind…at that time!!

So time has past and Team Heelz got better. We learned tricks, we learned different heelys, we got some awesome shirts, and we learned about the real Team Heely! Around the same time I made my first video…but it was to dark to see. A few other kids around the neighborhood had heelys but they weren’t up to heeling with us much because we were to like stuntish. Sadly 4-runner began to wear his heelys less and less. Then eventually he wouldn’t wear then in front of “none heelers” so he didn’t wear then much. But when he did wear them we all had a good time. Except once. Well there was a new member of the team (no longer a member) Erick and he liked heelys he had them for like 1 year and a half so he could ride…but the stunts no. So Twitch wanted to put him in a higher position then me nd 4-runner. Well we didn’t find it fair because he was on the team 5 hours and he already would have a spot above us?? So we argued like lil kids (well me and 4-runner) and finally twitch’s mom comes out and solves it. And the reason the kid aint on the team anymore is cuss that was the last time we saw him (except for twitch cuss they in same grade). This happened in late November/early December.

December 8, 2006 was the last time me, twitch, nd heely monster heeled together around his house cuss he was moving. Very sucky day to because we couldn’t even heely much cuss of a fire 2 blocks down and the smell, smoke, and ash was terrible. But before the fire we were doing stunts and the movers were so amazed. When they moved I followed there car while heeling until I reached the corner. I was sad. But then next weekend I stayed over there house for the day and we caught up on the heeling we missed out on (wow a week we missed a lot of heeling)

The next time I saw then was for twitch AND heely monster’s b-day on the December 30, 2006. We didn’t get much heeling cuss half the kids didn’t have heelys…but there was a moon bounce…that I didn’t go on lol. Twitch and Heely Monster got new heelys for Christmas. They were cool. Oh and that day I won pin the nose on the clown…YEA I ROCK!! lol. The next day we got some heeling but not much. And the time we did have to heely we didn’t waste. So overall this day was fun.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! My heelys first new years…they loved every second of it lol! At 12:00 I yelled HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then went outside and blew my horns and clapped my hands up and down my street while heeling so I went super fast. The next day was horrible there was supposed to be a parade but it friggin rained so it was canceled until the week after so no heeling that day. When next week came my cousin woke me up telling me my lil heely friends are outside waiting for you. I looked at the clock it was only 9:00 but I figured hmm they came from Delaware let me go outside. So I go on my step hair not brushed still in PJ’s. They said they were going to the parade and I said ill meet em there. So when I go there I watch some of the parade and go hunting for them. After 5 blocks I found em. We heeled a bit then he came to my house. We got some pics (which I will include at the end of this) this day was awesome!

After that day I don’t see them again for a while. Me and 4-runner don’t heely together much, but I heely everyday. I had gotten my torches and that is when I had a true challenge. I HAD TO LEARN TO GRIND!!! I didn’t learn for a while but I used a metal pole, slanted it on my step, and fake grinded. It was ok for a while but then I talked my dad into making me a grind rail. We made it and I tried to learn. But I stuck with fake grinding for a bit.

I’m skipping a lot cuss I don’t remember it all but its probly stupid junk like I heeled today and fell stuff like that’s not important…ANYWAY!!!

February 10, 2007…what an AWSOME day! It was our first heely demo. We were in full uniform, team heelz shirts and camo pants. When we got there we were so excited and hyped up. We went to the 3rd floor when my mom got a call that my grandmom went to the hospital. So twitch’s parents came and watched us. Bonkers, mx, nd Tattoli were sooooo awesome! Hope we get to meet them again! When we were leaving I almost forgot my hoodie. Hmm maybe I should have forgot it cuss then I would have to go to another demo and meet them for my hoodie lol…what an evil plan. To bad I didn’t forget it!

I LEARNED TO GRIND!!! It was like a week or two after the demo when I learned to grind. I was so hyped up and I couldn’t stop doing it! I began making real videos with me grinding…AND NOT FALLING!!! Hopefully in the near…VERY NEAR future I can start grinding benches and things higher up!

I have learned A LOT of tricks since the demo, crabwalk, pipeline, one foot, and grinding. I’m VERY impressed in my progress! I’m getting better then I ever though I could be! The rest of the team is improving a lot to! Wish we could drop in but just gotta take one step at a time!

Team Heelz has a new member! My cuz, Mr.Heelz! He can go straight and grind. He’s REALLY trying to drop in. He’s determined! He hurt his hands, knees, and his back, but he won’t stop. One thing that annoys me is that he don’t like to wear gear. He says it makes him look stupid but he just won’t wear it. I told him it’ll protect him but its no use. Nothing will get through to him.

Well this is how far I’ve advanced on my heely journey. And I hope I never stop this challenge. In the beginning I was normal cant heel 13 year old Laina. But with half a year gone by, I’m now 14 year old Heelz who is trying to be the best heeler I an be! I would be nothing without my team nd ALL the people heelychat!

This was really cool. I don't usually read long posts like this. But I completely understand your feelings.

Remember how in the beginning, you couldn't even Heel forwards?

Well .. always remember how far you've come. Then when you can't do something, remember that time.

Perseverance and dedication means a lot. If you don't get it at first, keep trying. That's how to succeed.

OMG! that is the longest post EVER. Like merlyn, don't normally read such long posts but, I have nothing else to do so I read it. Nice to see how far you've come. It must have taken you AGES to write that, but it was cool, so yeah. Very Happy
