That's a weird little article. Its 1/2 right and 1/2 wrong.
We started posting videos because it was a cool thing to do - to bring an awareness to the public about what Heelys can do. It was NOT about marketing.
I remember posting my first videos long before I was sponsored. So you know it can't be all about marketing. I continued to post videos after I got sponsored. It was Webstar's idea to bring it to YT since we would get more exposure. It saved me diskspace, so I was like "sure, why not"? It was a good idea.
Well .. the concept ended up being a lot more successful than expected. So HSL made the most of it. I don't mind at all because I skate for HSL. Their success is all our success. It means a healthier company leading to better and better Heelys. Can you imagine how sad we would all be if HSL went out of business?
But the whole thing started out as more of an awareness campaign than marketing. It will is.
That's the straight dope.
