Obviously this thread is going to have a limited audience as I realise many of the members are still of school age, but I noticed a fair few of us adult members seem to have IT related jobs: Me, Mav, etc. . . anyone else? |

| when I had my wonderful, gravy-train, stay at home job, and a couple time prior to that "in the real world" I was a tech support rep and/or Training and support Manager, so I guess I count. |

See what I mean - is like Heelys and IT seem to go hand in hand? Or maybe that's just the modern world: everyone works with computers in some sense I suppose? |

I program PHP.
Would you believe Heelychat (or, to be more precise, the code I poured into Heelychat) helped get me my current job?
So yeah, I know enough to do pretty much anything to the forum I want. The flipside of that is I DON'T WANT TO during or after a work week in which I spent time programming, say, an entire shopping cart system pretty much by my lonesome. |

I'm in information assurance (formerly known as computer security).
I think heelys attract kids, kids-at-heart, and apparently geeks. As I don't wear black-framed glasses with white tape in the middle, I'm not a nerd.

Don't worry mcro, you can love heelys, and be a non-nerd adult! Nerds and geeks are fun to hang out with though, because we don't have an "image" to loose, so we tend to be more relaxed and open with people. At least my group of nerds and geeks are! Besides we're a fun-loving bunch!

I think there is a pretty common thing when it comes with Computer Geeks (cause nerds don't get anything done) and doing what we want...
We don't care...
Think of the phone phreaks back in the early 90's... Think of some of the names... Actually, the dude who found the tone to unlock a trunk line was named Joybubbles or something like that... And the dude who realized that a whistle in a Captain Crunch box would make the right tone, allowing anyone to phreak a phone... He was called Capt'n Crunch...
Then if you look at other hackers throughout our culture and how they dress, talk, and act, its completely true to theirselves.
We don't care what the world thinks of us, we do what we like to do. Call us names and we will destroy your computer...
Now, the connection between Heelys and IT techs I believe is an illusion.
What do IT people do... Get on the computer... And when we are on the computer, we tend to find things of our interests... Forums... A person like Heelys... its a quite simple deduction.
I see quite the few adults who wear Heelys... Some of them work at places like Target or Walmart... Even Sears... I see adults wearing a greasy mechanic shirt rollin around in Atomics... Shaq plays Basketball and Dane Cook is a comedian. Lil' Kim has a pair, and that ho from the Playboy show has a pair... |

Ah, how refreshing to come across someone who knows the true meaning of "hacker" as opposed to the current media-version. Gone are the days of good old John Draper now sadly.

Absolutely, we don't care what other people think of us. That may be a good reason for the link between some "hackers" (in the old-school sense of the word: exploring a subject to the limit, not the current mass media definition, they seem to merely think it means someone who breaks into a secure system)

You're bound to get a lot of Maccie-D lovers, just like me asking on a forum if people are IT people (or hackers, as some of them may be or may have been in the past) is bound to produce an biased number of "Yes" results compared to a survey of Heelers done off the net.

Guess in a few years when they've had time to filter through from the states more I might.
