Yes, after almost a week, I'm finally going to make a post about it!
Because getting there is half the fun: You don't know joy* until you try to drive 20 hours in a row. It gets late and I can see the white line literally blurring before my eyes and find a rest area, where some asshole shines his lights in my car for a bit. I decide not to hang around there, find another rest area, sleep, and learn that I really can choose to get up at first light whenever I want.
*Insanity.
I avoid heavy traffic and getting lost and make it to Zero at 1:00 or so local time! Woo! Take a much needed rest before going in and dealing with the halfpipe.
I learned the hard way that I seriously couldn't pump. (After three days of hard Heeling, I just mostly can't pump now.) That is one MEAN halfpipe. Even their mini-pipe is hard for me. Tdav, to his credit, learned MUCH faster than I did, and Kain and H2 tore the place up. We pretty much skated our heads off- it's not air conditioned in there, though, and we went back upstairs a lot.
Even tired beyond recognition and low on sleep I can still dance tough DDR.
H2 hurt herself while I was going to the Comfort Inn. I'm still not sure what happened. She didn't skate again in the HCG.
Some sympathy for the poor worker's computer problems at the hotel gets me a small discount on a room with a Jacuzzi. I used it, and did I ever need that. Ahhhh... bubbles.
Friday we chose Oakland. I like Oakland a LOT more than Zero, honestly. There's more fun things to do, and it's just a better park generally. Tdav clapped when I finally (FINALLY) managed to tru stall the mini-bowl.
We decide to go to a waterpark, but the place is absolutely crowded beyond recognition. Kain and Tdav spend their time playing in traffic while we decide to go to the mall, a place where Kain, apparently, can't not do tricks.
I realize they're not going to bitch about Heelys when I see someone selling them.. no- wait- they're FAKES!! I almost unleashed the fury on the douchebag selling them. "You want skate shoe?" No, I want to put MY shoe up your ASS, and see if your intestines screw up my bearings! Hey Bonks, you get my PM? Fakes seller at Oakland Mall, corner of 14 Mile and Van Dyke. Allawyerate him.
We eat (Panda Express decided to go heavy on the hot stuff this time, apparently) and the fakes seller gives me the evil eye.
When I got back to the car... Fonzie was dead. I'm not going to speculate as to why- it seriously could have been anything. He was 3 1/2 years old, which is pretty old for . I knew it could happen at any moment- I'm sure the stress and the (mild, I swear) heat didn't help much. I just wasn't expecting it to happen THEN.
We found a laser tag place. 15 minutes of action for $7.50 and 5-second death length isn't that bad, although the unresponsive sensors are a real bitch. (Oh, and hey Speedracer, if you're out there: GET A LIFE.)
I forget what we did after that. I think we went back to Oakland, then to Applebee's for some.. food. Their steak was all right. I successfully avoided the temptation to get rip-roaringly drunk and we managed to follow each other to a Holiday Inn where they actually had a WEATHER CHANNEL this time and I slept with Tdav's mom to save money.
Oh wait, that sounds pretty wrong. Tdav actually slept with his mom.
Oh.. err... no, it wasn't... ok, I'll stop now...
Next morning, I have breakfast while everyone else sleeps. 9 AM rolls around and guess what! It's pouring down rain! We head back to Oakland, I finally conquer going from one hump to the next (in that channel-thingy), and it's about 1:00 when the people Heeling find our legs aren't exactly functioning right anymore. (Actually, mine had hurt pretty much since Thursday night.) We discuss what to do for about an hour before we decide to go back to Crappy Laser Tag land.
This time it's a huge game, 23 peeps, and I get slightly less owned this time around. (I do NOT camp the 5 year olds. I shoot them when I get the chance, but I categorically refuse to follow or camp anyone. It's fucking lame.) Tdav got second, somehow, even though he never hit me once.
We decide to end the HCG there. I'm grateful for it. I have to drive home.
On the way back, I notice a peaceful Lake Michigan beach. I was going to bury Fonzie at home, but I left him deep in the water, for the fish and maybe the birds. It felt like a good place to let him go. RIP, little .
I picked up a hitchhiker, shoveling all my crap in the passenger side into the back seat, and then proceed to sleep with him in the car (no, sorry, I already did that joke, thanks) that night.
"But that was dangerous" Yeah... no. He was Canadian. The mosquitoes and the HUGE WHITE BUGS trying to force their way into my car were more dangerous. Seriously, those things were monsters. Both of us get very little sleep and I just get going again at first light and drop him off at Escanaba (raise your hands if you know where that is? lol).
Nice and cloudy almost the rest of the way back. Notice a gas station selling both ethanol and non-ethanol Regular, the non- for 10 cents more. Since I know the energy comparison, I buy the non-.
And that night and the night after I sleep for 11 hours.
Most of my stuff is STILL in my car...
I really wish we had done more at Oakland. They have some Heelys-unfriendly halfpipes and other stuff, like a vert wall of doom (bruised my palm on that thing) and a fun little sorta-bowl to carve.
But the fun thing about an unsanctioned, mostly unplanned event is that even WE don't know what we're going to do next... |

Yeah, the halfpipe at Zero's pretty hard X_X
And yes, I can't not do tricks when I'm wearing heelys
You couldn't be more right about Speedracer XD
btw, the HCG didn't end there, at least for me and H2......I went on to Drake Park (the outdoor one) and met up with H2. We had dinner with her and April . I got a bunch of clips for my HSL vid there too, and freelined a lot. |
