Okay - I just got the skinny from corporate.

Armatures and Regionally Sponsored People are BOTH allowed to enter the HSL video comp.

Now .. I HIGHLY encourage you to enter. We always talk about how to help the Heeling community .. well .. putting out some cool solid videos is the best way!!

But rent a camera... Even if people enter doing 3 minutes of crabwalks, it still shows the big wigs that there are people skating... This is our chance to show what we are about, and that we're not going to give up...

I do think its funny the comp is going to be on Skateboarding Day... XD go figure

FYI - just for people looking to rent cameras ..

I HIGHLY recommend renting/borrowing/buying a digital camera that can take movies.

This is because you don't need to transfer the tape to a format that is editable. Converting files SUCK.

So .. for instance .. I have a Canon Powershot 750 that I got off eBay for $150. It takes great movies, including fast action (60fps). The format is native .AVI so its not like I have to sit around and convert the tape. I just pop out the SD card .. drop it into my laptop and start editing.

Using miniDVs and stuff .. well .. is just a honking waste of time.

That's my advice.

I used to do that with the camera... Thats what all my older movies are, using a Samsung

Then I bought a Sony HDD camcoarder, which takes KICK ASS video, but again as the Merlyn said, it has to be converted if you are going to use a program like Movie Maker or Premeir. If you use Vegas, then it doesn't need to be converted...

But as for renting a camera, just grab your yellow pages and look for Rental place like Aarons or RTO sotres... They are usually pretty cheap, and it should only take a couple days to shoot and gather the footia on your PC

Yeah .. if you've the need for some HD work .. or even want to put your stuff on DVD, then a digital camera is a bit light.

But for most stuff that goes up on YT (which brings the resolution back down to like 170 x 120) .. then a digital cam is actually much more convenient.

Regardless of which media you get it on... GET IT ON!!! lol

Submissions are due on the 31st(?) which leaves just a few more precious weeks to get things submitted!

And as Kain pointed out, HCG will be a great place to get some footie and slap together a video...

also, since they mentioned the converting, make sure the camera records in .AVI if ur gona use WMM. i have a camera that records in .MOV which is a total bust because i have to waste time converting clips. ><

Sorry for the geek speak, but... MOV and AVI are just "containers". The data inside can still need conversion before some editors are able to use them. For example, I have AVIs that play fine on my mac, and some that don't. I needed to convert or get a specific decoder for the one that wouldn't play.
That said, your best bet is to get a good CODEC pack for your computer. This applies to mac and PC alike. With a good codec pack, you won't care what the file is in, 'cus the computer will be able to use it anyway. Now, some editors are still stupid about things and convert them to some other format anyway. This is something I hate about iMovieHD on my macbook, 'cus the files get 10x bigger once they're imported. Sad

If anyone needs recommendations on CODEC packs because they are having issues with editing the media they have, just ask. I'm sure someone will help, if not me.
