I don't mean to step on any toes or anything, but it seems that a reminder of the rules of dibbing is in order:
| Quote: | General rules for dib-calling:
1. You have to have a reasonable chance of winning the auction. Don't call dibs if you've only got a max of like $30 or something, especially if it's for something like large-size Evos.
2. You have to be able to reasonably wear the shoes in question. No calling dibs on stuff that's too big (and it's almost always too big on dib calls, not too small) for you. Your feet will grow, but there's people RIGHT NOW who want/need those shoes.
3. While not required, if your max is exceeded in last-hour bidding wars, it is very good etiquette to send instant messages of "I can't win this, someone else want dibs?" to the other people who want them.
4. Dibs are non-transferable. You can give up dibs. You cannot give dibs to a particular person. |

Rule #1 is the one I re-posted the rules for. Tdav wants the shoes, but hasn't even bid yet. As I recall from his chatting in the SB, he plans to bid at the very last minute for the minimum amount possible. I believe he said his max was about $30. Unless he's extremely lucky and no one else on the entire internet sees that auction before it ends, he's not going to win such good condition, size10 (Toxic?) Evos for $30. Seems to me, that's in direct conflict of rule #1. But, as I didn't write the rules, maybe I'm taking them too literally, and not understanding the original intent.
I wish him luck, though. |

If you land the Size 10 Evos for 30, I will be pissed... Actually, I would go beyond pissed and become livid. I think I have 1 pair of shoes I bought from eBay that has been less then what they were on the shelves brand new...
As for the bidding, dibs can be a good thing I guess, but if thats the case, one can go around bidding on every damn thing on the 'bay and no one can say anything about it. Who are you to argue that I'm a last minute bidder and I can't afford everything I dibbed? And then when the auction is over and I didn't bid on anything, whats the worst that can happen? A banned IP address and some hatefull words from some other people? Whooooo...
I think the dib is more or less bidding on the item first. Its nice to hold off, just out of respect, but when its something that is pretty rare like decent conditioned Toxics, I think its fair game to whoever bids on it first... Or at least have them exchange highest bid prices (like a bid amung themselves) and give it to the one willing the pay the most... IDK... I just think out of the rarity of the shoe and with the ability to dib almost anything whenever, the rules may need to be revised. Especially since the only plate models that are available BRAND SPANKIN NEW IN MOST EVERY SIZE are Fat models. When it comes to the Mega model at a low price, I will drink the blood of my opposing bidders by the end of the auction...
=D Thats my take on it.... now back to your regularly scheduled dib post |

then me and alot of other peopel have been dibbing wrong, when i dibbed the other tevos sz 10 i waited until last minute to bid same with the neos, and i thought the point of dibbing was to get you a chance to get the item, not to bid right away, besides how many people not on heelychat know about grinding heelys, let alone tevos.
*edit* i see what you mean about the large sized evos and the 30 dollar bid limit but what i dont get is why not dib and wait until last minute to bid? |

Lets say that me and you were in a bidding battle for size 12 evos... You say that you will pay 30 bucks for them, but I would pay double that ammount... And vice versa... I would rather see someone from HC benifit from the shoe then someone else... And if that someone else outbids you at the last minute, I would have no idea, and neither of us have that shoe, you know?
If anything, calling Dibs is a good thing, I actually like how its done in the past. What should happen is if someone wants a shoe (me) and someone else has the bid on it (Seth), I think it is totally acceptable (and should be a common practice) to talk privately about max bids. Because if Seth just wants them to add to a collection and I want them because my evos look worse then my rails, it should be a good comprimise to exchange max bids... The only down side of it is that I know that someone will say "My Max Bid is 3,000,000,000 dollars" just to turn the other person away...
I don't know if my thoughts make much sense... I am kinda at work... =( |
